SOUNDLIB
SoundLib is great for downloading and uploading SYSEX banks to and from your DX7. It was originally sold by Christophe Le Brasseur, but is now offered online for free. Again, this is PC only. You still need to type in a registration code, which is:

MIDI LIB
MIDI Lib, is another piece of Windows PC software for downloading and uploading banks to and from your DX7. As my DX7 / PC MIDI connection is currently out of action, I haven't actually tried this software for real, but it appears to run.

DX-G and synC
Here, two downloadable bits of software bring you the ability to listen to and edit DX7 sounds banks purely on your PC without even needing a DX7! Getting them to work is fairly long winded, but well worth the effort! (should take 5 mins or so).
DX-G (written by G. Landini) is an excellent FREE 'software synth' module for your PC, which basically acts as a virtual DX7. With it, you can program new sounds, or download existing SYSEX banks, and play DX7 sounds, on your computer, using MIDI or the PC keyboard, through your sound-card! In other words, it turns your PC into a DX7!
It works with the "synC Modular" software synthesizer, which can be obtained from the link below.
They really do work, and to get them, follow these steps:
Go to G. Landini's site, and download the DX-G link. Click Here. Here, you can get the DX7 module, needed with the software from the site below.
Go to the synC site, and download the latest version of their software. Click Here.
The DX-G software is zipped, so un-zip it to a folder you'll remember somewhere on your PC. Remember, this is the DX7 module for synC, and will not work without the synC software.
The synC download is not zipped. Just double-click it and follow the normal installation prompts.
The synC software does not load DX7 sysex banks automatically - you need to convert your .syx banks using "dx72dxg.exe", which should have been installed on your PC when you unzipped the software from the DX-G site. So, find and open 'dx72dxg.exe', and within it, find your .syx files, and double click on them to create a " .smp " version of your .syx files (one at a time). This is what will work with synC.
Then open the synC program, and under it's "FILE" menu, choose "open ensemble". Navigate to where you saved the DX-G files, and select "dx-g16.sme". This will open the DX7 module. If you click on the little keyboard sign, and the sine wave sign, you should be able to hear a basic tone if you press any of your qwerty keys on your PC.
To load your converted .syx banks and hear real DX7 sounds, click on the 'INITIALIZE' box on the bottom right corner of the synC program.
Then, click 'Merge' and navigate to where your converted DX7 bank is. Select a sound, click 'done' and enjoy near perfect Yamaha DX7 sounds played through your PC. Nice ;)
